It’s been a while since I posted. I’ve had some busy times, which means there are all kinds of fun things going on to update the blog with. If the first month and a half are any indication, It’s going to be a jam-packed year around here. Couldn’t be happier about it, either. Here’s what’s in the works at the moment.
Songs from the Phenomenal Nothing – Songs did a phenomenal something: in mid-January, thanks to a hugely successful promotion masterminded by my brilliant marketing manager Jen Gilbert, the book broke the top 200 on the Amazon Kindle chart. It settled in for a while at #143, which was so much more than I’d even hoped for. Huge thanks to Jen and all my friends at Booktrope who believe in the book and in me, and keep pushing to get the story out the world…and huge thanks to everyone who snatched a copy and read and reviewed. All of you have a hand in making my authorly dream come true, and I’m incredibly grateful for you.
Steven Luna Illustration – In addition to writing, I also illustrate…not for books as much as for the sake of telling a story in a visual rather than a verbal medium. I’ve always done this, and for great spans of time it was the focus of my creative energy. It took a back seat to writing when the words became stronger than the images. Now, they seem to be sharing the front seat. Feel free to take a look at what’s going on on the Facebook page. Images will be added regularly, and other fun stuff will pop up soon.
Awonder – The illustration led to a fantastic new partnership with Gustavo Martin Chambrillon, an amazing writer from Argentina. He’s become a fantastic friend as well, so much so that we’ve decided to collaborate on a series of projects we call Awonder. These projects celebrate the idea of dreams and magic in the everyday everything. There will be coffee table-style books and prints combining my images and his words. There’s a book trailer featuring Gustavo’s artful film work and my music and images scattered throughout.
Joe Vampire 3: The New Paranormal – A third book in what I’m now calling the Joe Vampire Series has been completed and is in the revision and editing stage. This one brings readers up to speed on the world’s most sarcastic and blogtastic vampire, two years after we left him Family Ever After in The Afterlife. As per his upside-down supernatural life, this installation follows him through the ups and downs and down-down-downs of paranormalhood. I’m pretty excited to share his new adventures with you. I think I’ve come up with some pretty solid stuff for him to live through (as much as a revenant can). More to come as release date approaches. If you haven’t read the first two, they’re currently on sale at Amazon, .99 for Joe Vampire and 1.99 for The Afterlife. Great time to throw them on your Kindle and catch up, so you’ll be ready for the next go.
Joe Vampire: All Up In My Shorts – It’s been a ton of fun getting the dude vampire’s voice back – so much so that it will likely lead to a fourth installation. Before that, though, I’ll be working on a collection of Joe short stories that follow the characters all around the Joe’wn Universe between the novels. I can picture some pretty silly situations that just don’t fit into the books, so they’ll be getting a collection of their own. Turns out the undead can have really robust lives when they’re too stubborn to follow the rules. They’ll be in the vein (pun totally intended) of A Very Joe Vampire Holiday that showed up last December (and is still available, if anyone’s holiday spirit has stuck around into the new year.) More to come as release date approaches.
New Covers for Joe and The Afterlife – A new release and an expansion of the Joe series calls for a freshening-up of his fang-laden mug. So designs are being played with to give the books a bold new graphic appearance, just in time for book 3. We’ll be revealing those here, there and wherever on the web anyone is will to help us out with a cover reveal. If that happens to be you, please comment on the blog and we’ll be sure to add you to the calendar. More to come on that as well.
Dumb White Husband 2.0 – I’m a contributing member to a very funny website called DumbWhiteHusband.com, run by my hilarious friend and fellow author, Ben Wallace. For quite some time, we’ve filled it with posts skewering the stupid things guys do. As of January, we’ve expanded the crew to include several very funny, very talented authors to help round out the perspectives. It’s still all about the funny, though. Head over and check it out if you haven’t already.
I think that’s plenty for now. Look for updates on all of these and more, coming soon. As always, thank you muchly for reading the books, checking out the blog and supporting my crazy little writerly – and now illustratorly, too – dreams.
Hope all is well on your side of the world.
